Why wellness isn’t about perfection (and what to aim for instead)
14 June 2025
You don’t have to be a guru to get your health on track.
The health world can be overwhelming. Eat this, avoid that, meditate more, work harder, rest deeper. The noise is endless!
Michelle Powell’s book, The Mastery of Wellness, cuts through the noise with one simple truth: wellness is about consistent foundations, not perfection.
Here’s an insight
You don’t need another wellness trend. You need your own version of a grounded, sustainable routine, and it doesn’t have to start with a full life overhaul.
It starts with one clear, consistent change, and the decision to stick to it, whilst understanding that doing your best is going to look and feel different every day.
Add this to your toolkit
Choose one pillar this week:
Breathe
Sleep
Nourish
Move
Rest, or
Reflect.
Example: Choose ‘Breathe’. Now, set a 2-minute timer once a day to pause, connect with your body, and breathe slowly and deeply. In the foreground, breathe. In the background, relax your jaw and shoulders, and let your belly hang. Give yourself permission to relax and let go of tension, noticing it where you feel it most as you breathe into it.
Example: Choose ‘Move’. Walk for 10 minutes without headphones. Instead, let your mind wander as you walk and let your footsteps fall into a rhythm. Notice how refreshed and energised your body feels afterwards.
Reflect
What foundation feels easiest to strengthen this week? How will making one simple and easy change for the better influence your overall wellness?
